Town Life Magazine
PMB 150, 4707 Hwy. 61
White Bear Lake, MN 55110
September 14, 2006
City of Gem Lake
Gem Lake, MN
Re: Gem Lake Report — 2007 Proposal
Dear Sirs,
I respectfully submit this proposal to write, photograph, graphically design and mail a four-color, one -
page "Gem Lake Report" to all Gem Lake homes and businesses in the coming year. The cost of doing
so will be $1,000 per issue ($6,000 per year).
Background
I grew up in White Bear Lake, moved to Los Angeles to write stand-up comedy and earned my
Journalism degree from California State University, Northridge. Since 1987,1 have worked as a print or
broadcast Journalist in Los Angeles, Dallas and the Twin Cities.
Town Life
After working as the Associate Editor of the White Bear Press for four years, I started a color, glossy
hometown magazine called "Town Life" in 1999. Town Life contains a wide variety of articles on local
people, history, politics, education, arts and entertainment and community events. Town Life has earned
a reputation as a hometown magazine of beauty and substance. Readers rely on the magazine for news,
features and events in their community and often tell me how proud they are to display it on their coffee
tables.
Newsletter
Since its inception, White Bear Township has asked me to create and include its newsletter within the
magazine. In return, I've mailed each issue to every home and business in White Bear Township. I am
interested in providing Gem Lake with a similar high -quality newsletter that is mailed to professional
people throughout the area.
Distribution
Town Life is printed six times each year. It's working calendar and two -month coverage of community
news and events gives it a longer "shelf -life" than other publications. The magazine is mailed to 12,500
upscale homes in White Bear Township, North Oaks, White Bear Lake, Dellwood, Vadnais Heights and
Northeast Maplewood. Another 600 copies are sold via subscription and retail stores.
Conclusion
I've been writing about the White Bear Lake area for the past eleven years and would like to expand my
coverage to include Gem Lake. I hope you see the value of including a "Gem Lake Report" within Town
Life. Thank you for your consideration.
Very truly yours,
Catherine Carey, Publis e
Town Life Magazine
