Mr. Sweeney noted that it was a very energetic group; and <br /> that the annual Peanut Day was only one of the Club's many fundraisers. <br /> Mr. Sweeney advised that donations to the Club allowed them to provide leader- <br /> ship training programs for area youth; donations to the City's Parks and <br /> Recreation Program; recent donation of a park bench for the OVAL; equipment <br /> and book donations for the Children's Section of the Library; cash donations to <br /> organizations serving the community; the purchase and donation of food to area <br /> food shelves; and youth scholarships. <br /> Mr. Sweeney advised that the Club's "Gifted Geezers" also provide non-monetary <br /> services to the community, including delivering flowers, parking cars at the <br /> Saint's ballgames; tutoring at local schools; and a Key Club in schools for youth <br /> serving the community. Mr. Sweeney advised that other activities included a toy <br /> repair program for Head Start; annual pancake serving at the Harriet Alexander <br /> Nature Center (HANC); selling of Rosefest buttons; Salvation Army bell ringing; <br /> and ushering at University of MN events. <br /> Mayor Roe read the proclamation and recognized the dedication of the North <br /> Suburban Golden K Kiwanis, headquartered in Roseville, in helping community <br /> youth educationally and spiritually; and proclaimed Friday, September 23, 2011 <br /> as Roseville Golden K Kiwanis Peanut Day as a day set aside for the Club to raise <br /> funds for its many and varied programs. <br /> Pust moved,Johnson seconded, proclaiming Friday, September 23, 2011 as Rose- <br /> ville Golden K Kiwanis Peanut Day as a day set aside for the Club to raise funds <br /> for its many and varied programs. <br /> Roll Call <br /> Ayes: McGehee; Pust; Johnson; Willmus; and Roe. <br /> Nays: None. <br /> 6. Approve Minutes <br /> a. Approve Minutes of July 25,2011 Meeting <br /> Comments and corrections to draft minutes had been submitted by the City Coun- <br /> cil prior to tonight's meeting and those revisions were incorporated into the draft <br /> presented in the Council packet. <br /> Johnson moved, Willmus seconded, approval of the minutes of the July 25, 2011 <br /> meeting as amended. <br /> Roll Call <br /> Ayes: McGehee; Pust; Johnson; Willmus; and Roe. <br /> Nays: None. <br />
