Mr. John Loftus
Preferred Seasonal Timin
November 23, 1999
Page
To conduct the safest burn and gain the greatest ecological benefit during this point in the
establishment of the native planting, I would prefer to perform the prescribed burn within the
following windows:
October 1 December 15
April 1 May 1
am requesting a window of dates for the burry permit because my experience has shown that
since weather can be unpredictable, a time window will allow for flexibility to choose the safest
and most ecologically beneficial day for a fire.
Experience
Our staff has safely conducted numerous natural areas prescribed fires in the Twin Cities metro
area in the past several years. I personally have over ten years of experience in planning and
conducting safe and effective prescribed burns for state and county conservation agencies in
Iowa and Minnesota. In addition, I have completed U.S. Forest Service/MN DNR training for
plarming and conducting safe and effective prescribed fires, and for the last 8 years have served
as a burrs crew boss on numerous burns.
Bonestroo dissociates is enthusiastic about the opportunity to safer apply the tool of
prescribed fire to our native plantings to improve their ecological quality.
