REQUEST FOR COUNCII. ACTION
DA TE: 10/
yA
I TEM INTO C
Department Approval: Manager Rev Agenda S ection:
vi C:! Consent
Item Description: Application for M i/DOT participation in improvements to Twin Lakes
Boulevard/ 1-35W Interchange
Backgrounds: In 1996, the City completed a comprehensive plan amendment to the Twin
Imes Redevelopment Area that included a new alignment for Twin Lakes Boulevard. The
adopted change includes the utilization of the existing 1 -35W ramp rather than relocating the
ramp to the north as was previously planned. Modifications are needed to the existing ramp to
improve safety and capacity. Excerpts from the comprehens plan study detailing the needed
improvements are attached.
Mn/DOT is currently soliciting projects to he funded thro its FY 2001 Municipal
Agreement Program. Because the needed modifications to the I 355 ramp will improve
operations on Mn/DOT's system, these modifications are eligible for finding under this
program. Applications for funding i fiscal year 200 are due on November 5, 1 999 and
require a resolution from the City Council. Projects would be selected in January and funds
would become available as early as July 1, 2000.
Approval of a resolution applying for funding to construct improvements to the 1 -3 5W/ Twin
Lakes Boulevard interchange through MmMOT's Ium"cipal Agreements Program.
Prepared by: Karl Keel
