The
games attracted over 7500 participants and another estimated 3500 visitors to Roseville.
The Roseville Parrs and Recreation Department netted approximately 16,oo 0. The
Minnesota State Games Board has again asked the City of Roseville to host the 2000
summer Barnes. The Games will be conducted in June of 2000. It is anticipated that
these Games will attract 8,000-10,000 participants and another 5,000-10,000 spectators.
As a result of hosting the Games Roseville would:
• Experience significant economic gain.
• Showcase our community as a great place to live, work, recreate and shop.
• Provide a unique accessible recreational sports experience for our citizens.
Develop close relationships between many segments of our community
through the challenge of hosting the Games.
The City would act as the official sponsor with a committee made up of local volunteers to
organize the games. The liability for the evert would be managed through existing
coverage, an extensive risk management process for the Games and any supplemental
coverage, to be paid for through the Games funding sources.
Anticipated impacts on the City may include:
Loss of staff time for Parks and Recreation Director to act as committee
chair and incidental support throughout the planning year.
Loss of maintenance and other staff: time to assist, on an on-call basis,
during the hosting-of the Games. This would be as back up support.
A cessation of some of the regularly scheduled recreation activities during
the tern days of the Games. The scheduled season would be extended so
as not to lose any participation times.
An increase in traffic due to the size of the competition. This would be
spread over the duration of the Games.
