POLICY OBJECTIVE The proposal is consistent with programs and services provided on a fee basis and the City's past efforts to host major events that draw economic benefit to the community. FINANCIAL IMPLICATION The Star of the North Games would be organized the same as iiin 1995 and as ether Parks and Recreation programs that are conducted on a fee basis. All expenses of the Games would be obtained through fees, charges, donations, sponsorships and advertising. Should a catastrophe occur that would result in an inability to carry out the Games, the total liability is anticipated to be 40,000.00. The city would need to cover some of the initial costs until revenues are received. The budget would include the interest expense to pay for this initial financing. This could include up to $20,000.00 of reimbursable, up front expenses. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Based upon the past success of hosting these Barnes, the recommendation of the Parks p and Recreation Commission, and the interests of local citizens in volunteering to support the 1995 State Summer Games, staff recommends that the city of Roseville enter into an agreement with the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission State Carnes Board to host the 2000 Star of the North State Summer Carnes. COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED Motion authorizing the Mayor and City Manager to enter into an agreement for the 2000 Star of the North Summer Carnes with the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission State Ganes Board.
