2.4 The 340 kv emergency generator would be located directly behind and connected to the
existing N P transformer ormer and new transfer unit. The emergency generator is approximately
16 feet long by 10 feet wide and stands approximately 11 feet tall. As a self-contained
emergency generator it is designed with a boo gallon fuel storage unit and a goo gallon safety
sub-tank for capturing fuel in the unlikely event of a leak or rupture. This emergency
generator, with its boo gallon diesel fuel capacity, could ruts up to 54 hours. The walls of the
generator unit are designed with sound absorption material that are 10-5/8 inches thief and
were re-engineered to reduce noise reverberation by 0%. The generator will create 73
decibels of sound when operating at full capacity. Because it is emergency equipment noise
regulations do'not apply. The generator unit will be setback a minimunm of six feet from all
existing exterior walls to meet the fire code spacing requirement. No detached outdoor fuel
storage tank will be installed.
2.5 The self-contained emergency generator shell will be painted white to match the building and
will appear to be an attachment to the building.
2.6 In conjunction with this request, the following has been provided for review and
considerati-On:
project narrative
existing conditions/site plan
emergency generator diagrams
transfer unit and generator elevations
photos of proposed location
3.0 Staff Comment And Findings
3.1 Because of the fragile nature of the residents and their dependence on uninterrupted electrical
service, an emergency generator can be defined as on essential emergency service.
3.2 The proposed emergency generator is self-contained, including the fuel storage cell.
3.3 The City Code does not specifically address self-contained emergency electrical generators.
3.4 flue to the low flammability of diesel fuel the Fire Marshal prefers a diesel fuel operated
emergency generator as opposed to one operated by natural gas or liquid petroleum.
4.0 Staff Recommendation
The staff recommends approval of the request by Rosewood Estates for a permit to allow
installation of an emergency generator with a self-contained fuel storage cell within the front
yard of property located at 2750 Victoria.Street Forth.
PF3106--RCA(03/22/99)-Page 2 of 3
