REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Dated
s-
No.: D-1
Department approval: Manager Reviewed Agenda Section
Consent
Item i Metropolitan i
Background
Staff has been meeting with a group of cities, counties and the Diet Council staff regarding the
possibility of aggregating our mutual energy buying needs.
The result of our meetings has produced enough interest on our part as well as about 20 other entities
to get more serious about the"buying club" possibility. It appears that the concept has a great deal
of potential for substantial savings. It further appears that it is in the City's best interest to provide
an 4`intent letter, and to continue to participate until the amount of the value is determined.
Financial Implications
Thy are no fiw 1al requirements at this tine, however, if the City would continue on into the next
phase of organizing, there probably will some limited costs to cover legal and energy negotiating.
Those costs would not be incurred or quantified until the Council has tales the action to join the
;buying club."
Stiff Recommendati"On
Staff is recommending that the City Council approve the letter of intent.
Council Action
Motion to approve issuance of a letter of intent to the Metropolitan Energy Aggregation Group as
shown in the attachment to this action.
M.
