Previous 1997 PMP Contract A Change Order_No. 1 A number of items were added to the contract due to unforeseen circumstances in the field.The majorlty of Change Order No. 1 was due to conflicts with existing utility lines on South McCarrons Boulevard that are the proper of the SL Paul water Utility and the Metropolitan Council Environmental Services. Because'of the age of these utilities, accurate records were not available to determine their exact locations,resulting in some conflicts with proposed utilities. Change Order Igo. The project includes constructing a number of stone retaining walls to accommodate the new road,pathway,and parking areas.The original design of the walls was based on the assumption that no walls would be rewired over 5 feet in height.Due to the addition of a parking lane,particularly between woodruff Avenue and western Avenue on South c arrons Boulevard,it was necessary to modify the design of the walls to accommodate wall heights greater than 5 feet.In two areas,the walls were constructed to a height of 10 feet For the majority of the walls constructed to a height greater than 5 feet,it was only necessary to modify the size of the stones used to construct the wall.This modification results in an additional$71,475 to be added to the contract For the two areas where the wall was constructed to a height of 10 feet,a much more involved design was required to accommodate the fact that the stones themselves would not he sufficient to hold back the soil. In this case the soil behind the walls was reinforced and the stones were placed adjacent to the reinforced soil. The cost to build the walls in these two locations is $99,685,
