(rr
REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL A C Flo
DATE: 01.20.99
ITEM No:
Department Approval: Manager Approval: Agenda Section:
Ito Description: 1999 Code Administration Strategy
In the fall of 1998 the council and staff set up a tentative schedule to review the strategy
for the 1 999 code Administration strategy. The goal of enforcement of Code provisions
is to maintain and improve upon the visual and aesthetic look of the community. In order
to accomplish this goal, we have attempted to improve upon compliance with code
standards.
The city responded to over 750 land use or nuisance complaints during 1 998, a 00%
increase over 1 997, with a consequent clearance of over 0% (601) of the cases. The
staff has received numerous calls and compliments that, ".,.finally, you are getting to this
W
ssue and helping us solve the problem". Some problems, however, cannot be solved by
staff and codes. They are neighborhood or personality issues that could use an unbiased
third party or peer group to assist — perhaps the City's Human Fights or other citizen
committee would be interested in this challenger
Attached are the background summary reports and charts to illustrate the code
administration program, with some detailed charts on the land use code administration.
We hope this will be an annual opportunity to evaluate the program and provide direction.
Q:1Permits\ComplaintslrcaReport01 2099.doc
