October 11, 2011 <br /> Item 2 <br /> Approve Minutes <br /> 1 <br /> 2 <br /> 3 <br /> 4 Human Rights Commission <br /> 5 Meeting Minutes <br /> 6 DRAFT — September 13, 2011- DRAFT <br /> 7 <br /> 8 Commissioners Present: Jill Brisbois, Kristin Doneen, Vice Chair Gary Grefenberg, Wayne <br /> 9 Groff, Thelma McKenzie, Kaying Thao, Chair David Singleton <br /> 10 Youth Commissioners Marie Siliciano <br /> 11 <br /> 12 Call to Order <br /> 13 <br /> 14 Chair David Singleton called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. He noted that members of the <br /> 15 Golden Valley Duman Rights Commission were in the audience. He also noted that no staff was <br /> 16 available for the meeting because of illnesses. <br /> 17 <br /> 18 The Chair called the roll. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Approve Minutes of August 9, 2011 <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Commissioner Gary Grefenberg moved to amend the minutes, adding after line 31 "Commissioner <br /> 23 Grefenberg moved a variety of amendments to the draft minutes. He distributed the minutes to City <br /> 24 Manager Bill Malinen." Commissioner Jill Brisbois seconded motion to approve minutes as <br /> 25 amended. Motion prevailed with Commissioner Thelma McKenzie abstaining. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 Committee Reports <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Program Planning Committee <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Commissioner Grefenberg reviewed the Program Planning report in the packet. He noted that the <br /> 32 Neighborhood and Community Engagement Task Force was holding their neighbor to neighbor <br /> 33 meeting on Wednesday, looking for ways to improve how citizens can involve themselves in city <br /> 34 governance. He encouraged everyone to attend. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Commissioner Grefenberg said the City had included an article in the recent City Newsletter, which <br /> 37 goes to every resident's home, informing them of the meeting, and he noted that the City has <br /> 38 provided a webpage with information about the task force. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 Commissioner Kristin Doneen asked how she could be notified of the Program Planning meetings. <br /> 41 Commissioner Grefenberg said he would send meeting notices to city staff to publish and post. He <br /> 42 said all meetings are open to the public and encouraged all commissioners to attend. <br /> 43 <br /> 44 Commissioner Grefenberg said the goal of the meeting is to get more people involved and to <br /> 45 develop recommendations to give to the city.
