Roseville Human Rights Commission <br /> September 13, 2011 - Draft Minutes <br /> Page 5 of 6 <br /> 183 Commissioner McKenzie said she most likes having so many different people working together. <br /> 184 Commissioner Groff said he had served on the LMHRC several years previously, and he <br /> 185 appreciated the broader picture, noting the statewide perspective as opposed to the local perspective <br /> 186 <br /> 187 Commissioners discussed taking formal action to continue membership in the LMHRC. They <br /> 188 agreed to discuss at a future meeting. <br /> 189 <br /> 190 Commissioner Grefenberg asked if the LMRHC has taken a position on the proposed constitutional <br /> 191 amendment opposing same-sex marriages. Commissioner McKenzie said they had not taken a <br /> 192 position yet, rather they are working on the best ways to educate the public about the proposed <br /> 193 amendment. LMHRC is working with Outfront Minnesota, considering the best ways to present <br /> 194 information. <br /> 195 <br /> 196 Commissioner Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Brisbois seconded motion that the Roseville <br /> 197 Human Rights Commission recommends that the LMHRC take a position opposing the vote for a <br /> 198 constitutional amendments banning same sex marriages. Motion prevailed unanimously. <br /> 199 <br /> 200 November Meeting <br /> 201 <br /> 202 Chair Singleton reviewed state statute that prohibits public meetings between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. on <br /> 203 election night, so the HRC needed to change the November meeting date. Commissioner Doneen <br /> 204 moved and Commissioner Brisbois seconded motion to meet on Wednesday, November 16, at 6:30 <br /> 205 p.m. Motion prevailed unanimously. <br /> 206 <br /> 207 Golden Valley Human Rights Commission <br /> 208 <br /> 209 Commissioner McKenzie introduced representatives from the Golden Valley Human Rights <br /> 210 Commission(GVHRC). She said they wanted to see how other commissions worked. The GVHRC <br /> 211 was the first HRC in Minnesota. They were a very active commission, organizing many activities <br /> 212 and events, but in recent years they have had some problems and are trying to rebuild. <br /> 213 <br /> 214 GVHRC Commissioners thanked the Commission for the opportunity to observe the commissioner <br /> 215 meeting. <br /> 216 <br /> 217 Future Agenda Items <br /> 218 <br /> 219 Consider action supporting membership in the League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions. <br /> 220 <br /> 221 Announcements <br /> 222 <br /> 223 Commissioners reminded everyone of the Civic Engagement Neighbor to Neighbor meeting on <br /> 224 Wednesday at 6:30 at the Roseville Skating Center. Commissioner Grefenberg said he may have a <br /> 225 small charge for snacks at the Civic Engagement meeting. <br /> 226 <br />
