REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> 7/27/98 <br /> ITEM .r J- <br /> Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda section: <br /> Ordinances and resolutions <br /> Item Description: Cable Television Ordinance Renewal. <br /> BACK BACKG N D <br /> The issue of the Cable franchise renewal has been before the City Council for the past <br /> several months. The North suburban cable Commission has been the City's agent on this <br /> issue. The Cable Commission has conducted both a marketing and engineering analysis <br /> of the system and followed the Federal Communications Commission guidelines for <br /> franchise renewal. <br /> Numerous questions regarding the franchise have been raised by the City Council. <br /> Meetings have occurred with both the cable Commission and MediaOne. <br /> The Council, at its July 13 meeting, continued action on the Cable Franchise and also <br /> extended the cable Franchise renewal deadline to August 12, 1998. <br /> As part of the franchise review, the City has hired an outside attorney to review the <br /> proposed Cable Franchise, N r Franchises, and Fight-of-way Ordinance. To allow <br /> adequate time for this review, it is recommended that final action on the Cable Franchise <br /> Ordinance be continued to August 10, 1998. <br /> COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br /> Motion continuing consideration of the Cable Television Franchise Ordinance to the City <br /> Council meeting of August 10, 1998, <br />
