RQLL CALL AND INTRODUCTION&
Present: John Rhody, Doug Wilke, Katie Harms, Ed Cunningham,
Jim Mulder, Craig pausing, Janet Olson
Absent: None
Staff Present: Jay Kennedy, Dennis Welsch
Council Present: John Goedeke
6c. planning Fite 3008. Lois Nyman requesting a variance to reduce the north
aide yard setback to two feet for the purpose of constructing an eight-foot
addition to an attached single car garage (property located at 1720
Chatsworth street).
The public hearing was opened by chair Harms who requested staff to review
the Nyman ease. Dennis Welsch described the requested side yard variance,
the findings and recommendations from the staff report dated May 27, 1 998. He
noted that Mrs. Nyman has clarified her request - asking that the garage and
driveway set back h ree feet from the property line instead of the original request
Of tv&feet.
Lois Nyman, 1720 Chatsworth, stated she now has two cars which have had four
slashed tires. A second garage stall would be more convenient to protect
vehicles, and the resale value of the house will increase.
Chair Harms asked if there is mess within the garage to the house (yes).
Member Mulder asked for clarification on the size of the setback- is ®it two feet or
three feet? (3 feet - requiring a two-foot variance).
Member Wilke asked for details on the impact on the adjoining neighbors. Mrs.
Nyman stated she did attempt to purchase property from the neighbors, but was
refused.
