182 W. Skillman Ave.
St. Paul, MN 55113
'lay 11 , 1998
Minor Variance Committee
City of Roseville
1660 Civic Center Drive
Roseville, MN 55113
Dear Committee Members:
We would like you to grant us a manor variance to extend our west driveway south to
give entrance to a garage we would like to build. The driveway, and the garage, will
be less -than five feet from our western neighbor's property line. There is no other
practical way to access the garage. You did grant such a variance in 1990 for the
driveway for off-street parking.
The garage will probably encroach three fee; or less onto the property line for
several reasons:
1 . Because the driveway along the side of the house cannot be moved, we need to
position the garage so that we can have a straight shot to or from the garage.
Positioning the garage further east (away from the property lined would cause a
curve that would make backing out of the garage very difficult because of the
position of the house (see picture #4 and 5).
2. We do not want to position the garage further back (south) for several reasons.
A. We do not want to have to cut down the mature sugar maple (see picture #2).
B. In the winter especially, we do not want our renter to walk any further than
necessary to the house.
C. A longer driveway is more expensive to build and maintain,
D. and finally, a garage set further back would destroy the aesthetic value of the
combined opened yards of the area (see picture #3).
Sincerely,
4c-lr
Mary L. Needham
Diana M. Moss
