The following information was made available at the meeting:
12. LMC Pros and Cons of Odd/Even Year Elections
13. LMC List of Minnesota Cities that currently have odd year election
14. Joel JaMnik letter discussing odd/even year elections
15. League of Women Voters information
Additionally, Dick Lambert provided a document that was distributed to attendees. These
documents are included here along with statements from Roseville Area Schools, Mary
DePrey,Jerry Freeman,Mike Hermes, Vicky Lorenz and Tam McGehee. Finally, I spoke
with Sharon Gerber, she had a conflict but wanted to convey to the City Council members that
she wants a task force of open-minded people to explore issues and options. She also asked
that if the City went to even year elections, could the ballot be redesigned or go to two ballots
so that voters could more readily see City elections.
felt the meeting went very well. I had flip charts labeled:
1. Pro Odd Year Elections
2. Pro Even Year Elections
3. Con Odd Year Elections
4. Con Even Year Elections
. Other issues
Everyone got a chance to speak, and I went back several times to ask for input in each area.
We discussed several grey areas, and there were some disagreements about whether
something should be considered a pro or a con. As a group we agreed that many of the bullets
expressed opinions, not `truths."
Following the discussion I asked the group to identify the top argument(s) for or against each
area. They are at the top of each list and have asterisks next to them.
Fence, what follows are the comments of the persons attending the April 10 workshop on
Odd/Even Year Elections and all the materials described above.
0 Page 2
