Letter
from Don Anderson, Chair, Roseville Parks and Recreation Commission:
Mayor Wall Members of the council, Staff and Community members.
regret that I am out of town and am unable to make this presentation in person, I know that
'
Ernie allenbr.n g will more than adequately reflect the Commission's view on the need to
complete Phase 2 of the skating center expansion.
The decision you rake tonight will have an important impact on this community, it's youth, its

rs the effected user groups arid, equally as important, on those of us who have
seniors,
volunteered to serve this community, to study the infrastructure needs and to make our
collective recommendations. In this later group 1 have included those who served on the
original committees recommending the lee Arena back in the 60's and subsequent committees
that
recommended the oval, none of whom serge on the present Parrs and Recreation
Commission. But ! also include those volunteers who had the foresight to see that land was put
' arks and recreation purposes, those persons who have volunteered on other
aside for
community recreational activities, including the Nature Center, the gymnastics center and
youth sports and senior activities.
In the five plus years I have been on the Commission, we have recommended the completion
of this project at least three times. In addition, the recent infrastructure Committee has made
recommendation. Delaying this completion, not only has deprived the City of
the same recorn
ue but has also jeopardized our relationships with the Legislature and other
additional reven
bodies who expected we would act in a timely manner when the grants were appropriated to
us.
The need for expansion ansion to provide locker space, operating room for the staff and volunteers
officiating at skatin g Center activities, and space to provide are opportunity to generate
-skaters has been adequately explained and documented to you by staff.
revenue from non
There is no need for me to expand on the inadequacies of the present facilities. All one has to
do is go to one
of the new ice arenas completed or under construction in the metropolitan area
see why we are loosing revenue because tournaments are passing us by.
and you cans
In closing, I recommend ommend that you move forward without further delays in completing the
Skating tenter expansion. Not only is the skating Center the signature facility in Roseville
the facility that is known -
. wn world ide but it is a public community facility for all the citizens to
use. And with completion of Phase it will be a facility for public gatherings, community
group meetings—and additional non-skating rental revenue and possibly dining pleasure.
Thank you for supporting public recreation ' Roseville and its volunteers bar voting to move
Pp
forward with Phase 2.
