REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
DATE.- 3/23198
ITEM .. E-
Department ® Section:
. Organizational Business
Item Description: ,Joint Purchasing Agreement with the University of Minnesota.
BACKGROUND
The City currently has Joint Purchasing Agreements with Ramsey County, Hennepin
County, and the state of Minnesota. The Agreements permit the City to purchase supplies
and services from the other agencies' contracts. This is advantageous to the City because:
other agencies} through larger volume purchases, are able to obtain lover prices
than the City purchasing by itself.
it eliminates the need, for certain purchases, to prepare specifications and a
variety of staff work involved in the purchasing process.
The University of Minnesota also permits other government agencies to participate in their
purchasing program.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIoNs
There is no cost to participate in joint purchasing with the University.
STAFF RE oMMENDATIO[Vs
It is recommended the Council approve the Joint Purchasing Agreement.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED
Motion authorizing the Mayor and city Manager to sign the ,Joint Purchasing Agreement
with the University of Minnesota for the purchasing of services and supplies.
