REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION DATE i 0 1/26/98 ITEM NOm F^4 Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: Reports and Recommendations Item Description: Ladder 728 Replacement Approval BACKU&MMM, The existing fire apparatus Ladder 728 is twenty years old and is scheduled for replacement this current year with a proposed budget of$550,000.00. The 10o' ladder assembly has been non-functional for fifteen months due to major repairs needed on the turntable mechanism. A truer committee was formed eighteen months ago in order to write specifications for a replacement vehicle that would best serve the needs of g the City and the Fire Depar nent. Those specifications were approved by the City attomey and were then mailed to seven apparatus manufacturers. Having received only one bid, comparable apparatus purchase comparisons were needed in order to confu-rn that a competitive bid was submitted. The Chief s Staff'and true committee members fully agreed that this was a very competitive bid. Bidder Base Bid Alternative Bid(All-Wheel, _ erg Pierce Manufacturing $513,220 $23,686 FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS The base bid and all-wheel steer alternative totals $536,906. The budget for the purchase of the ladder is $5501000. Pierce Manufacturing has offered the following prepayment deduct options totaling $7,990 Payment of$166,250 ninety (90) days prior to the chassis completion with a deduct of $4,990 from the base bid. Payment of$176,471 sixty 60) days prior to completion of-.. the ladder with a deduct of $3,000 from the base bid. It is not unusual for the City to male payments prior to completion of work. STAFF RIRCOMMENDATION recommended the base and alternate bid be accepted It is recd in the amount of$536,906 and that deducts be p accepted in the amount of$7,990 for a total bid of$528,916.
