REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACMO1 <br /> DATE:10/25/93 <br /> ITEM NO: <br /> Department Approval: meager l eviewed: Agenda a t1ol1: <br /> Consent Agenda <br /> Item Description: Resolution in Support of Grant Application to <br /> Board of Govemment Innovation and Cooperation. <br /> BACKQRQUND, <br /> The 199 3 State Legislature allocated $1.2 Million from the local government trust fund to be <br /> used for cooperative agreement grants. The cities of Maplewood, Roseville, Little Can <br /> Woodbury, Oakdale and North St. Paul, and their respective school districts, are currently <br /> orl ing on a cooperative Program to provide adaptive recrmfion leisurre spice for persons with <br /> disabilities Each agency reviewed the variety of programs that they offer to the public and they <br /> found that a gap in recreation programmmg emsts. The particular age group that needs <br /> additional ro ming is children with disabilities ages 8-15. These cities have organized a <br /> gr9up entity the East Metro Area Adaptive Recreation pup. No one mmunity or <br /> organization within the up � the current resources to fund the start-up of this program. <br /> ■ a a � ■ <br /> This u is worldn toward a consolidated program rn which all agencies could provide at <br /> p g <br /> least one accessible ram to their constituents.
