Commissioner Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Brisbois seconded motion that the Roseville Human Rights Commission recommends that the LMHRC take a position opposing the vote for a constitutional amendments banning same sex marriages. Motion prevailed unanimously. November Meeting Chair Singleton reviewed state statute that prohibits public meetings between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. on election night, so the HRC needed to change the November meeting date. Commissioner Doneen moved and Commissioner Brisbois seconded motion to meet on Wednesday, November 16, at 6:30 p.m. Motion prevailed unanimously. Golden Valley Human Rights Commission Commissioner McKenzie introduced representatives from the Golden Valley Human Rights Commission (GVHRC). She said they wanted to see how other commissions worked. The GVHRC was the first HRC in Minnesota. They were a very active commission, organizing many activities and events, but in recent years they have had some problems and are trying to rebuild. GVHRC Commissioners thanked the Commission for the opportunity to observe the commissioner meeting. Future Agenda Items Consider action supporting membership in the League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions. Announcements Commissioners reminded everyone of the Civic Engagement Neighbor to Neighbor meeting on Wednesday at 6:30 at the Roseville Skating Center. Commissioner Grefenberg said he may have a small charge for snacks at the Civic Engagement meeting. Commissioners reminded everyone of the Project 515 discussion of discrimination against same sex couples and their families. It is sponsored by the Roseville and Shoreview HRCs. That meeting will be October 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Roseville Skating Center. Adjournment Commissioner Brisbois moved and Commissioner Thao seconded motion to adjourn. Meeting adjourned.
