Landscape <br />ConceptuaHy, the site is divided into the area in front of the residential buildings, and the area <br />between the residential buildings and the cam. This "front y yard" relationship <br />responds to the major physical foam= of each area. The front yard is defined by South <br />campus Drive and the curies to each of the raddential buil4gs. 7be plantings in the fit <br />will be morn formal and will be drawn from the hardwoods typical of uplands arm . The ba& <br />yard is defined by the creels, and the plantings will respond to lowland vegetation including <br />maple, aspen, bawwood Oder) and river birch. An= direly adjacent to the creek will be <br />seeded with prairie grasses and will be maintained in a naftual setting. Areas clone to the <br />buildings will be sodded and reveive Omamental and overdory p ntings. <br />The detailed wing plan and plan identify vegetation along the creek that <br />will be retained. The majority of trees that will be retained are cottonwood trees rangMg M <br />sire from d' to 30% but also include elm (d' to ''), maple (IS') and. ash (1 g 1) uum. These <br />trees will be primed to provide a sere of a for the new buildings and will screen the new <br />buildings from the existing homes to the west+ The new overstory bms— maple, aspen and <br />basswood --have bees selected because they are fast growing and are oompatible .with the rim <br />lowland ercology. <br />Archirecrunit frame <br />'Three image rhea have been doped that illustrate the views of the proposed buildings <br />from the adjacent residential neighborbood. Both buildings will have gWet outdoor sitting <br />areas adjacent to the dining rooms overlooking the cam. <br />The three story, 57 unit motel will have a residential character including sloped, Bled roods, <br />brick and hod=W siding. 7he deign intent is for AU buildings of the development to have <br />their own identity and image that relates to their function and wing requ 0 ts, but that <br />have related details and design elements, The buildings should relate to .each other, and to the <br />neighborhoodC40itUt. but tbey should not c each other. <br />
