Gatlin, Director of Public Works <br />RE: MET COUNCIL GRANT FOR PATHWAY PROJECT <br />Date: .February 11, 1993 <br />In late December, public works and park staff jointly submitted <br />an application to MnDOT for federal funding under the 1992 <br />Surface Transportation Act for bikeway and walkway projects. We <br />recently received information that our project has been funded <br />for construction i in 1993. The project includes a pathway along <br />County load c from Cleveland Avenue to Rice Street and on Rice <br />Street from County Road C to County Road H . The submittal also' <br />includes additional pathways on Fairview Avenue and Snelling <br />Avenue. The intent is to provide a continuous five-mile, barrier <br />free bikeway/walkway through Roseville which connects with . <br />existing facilities and provides access to regional and local <br />retail business and public facilities. <br />The project has been approved by preliminary review committees <br />and next week the project will be heard for final approval by the <br />full Metropolitan Council* Upon approval by the.Met Council, <br />formal notice of grant award will be made to the city. <br />A coy of the grant application is attached for your information. <br />Total. project cost is esti.ulIted to be $572,500, Federal funds <br />will pay 80% with 20% o f the cost to be funded by the city. The <br />city share will be $114,500 and the federal. share $455,000. The <br />20 city share is construction cost only and federal funds cannot <br />be expended on engineeri <br />
