wATFER CONSERVATION PILOT PROGRAM <br />Phase I -IV ( conducted 1 992) 9 <br />A. The Utility contracted with Energy Resource Center to conduct a pilot s tudY <br />that focuses on determining the effectiveness of water conservation <br />programs and various water conserving plumbing devices ,& <br />u <br />Board members were furnished with reports in November of 19.92. A summary of <br />the data is as follows* <br />Seventeen single family homes, nine duplexes and three apartment <br />buildings were retrof i ted with grater- efficient plumbing or <br />OR supplied with educational Materials. The plumbing devices used <br />include: <br />1) Toilet device (Select--A- Flush) incorporates two <br />flushing cycles; one for liquid wastes and one for <br />solid wastes ip <br />2) Low -flow shower heads - 1.5-2.5 gallons per minute. <br />3) Faucet aerators . 1.5-2.0 gallons per minute. <br />Educational materials were distributed to everyone who <br />participated in the project. These included: <br />1) refrigerator memo board <br />2) washer /dryer magnet <br />3 ) garage; reminder (outdoor water use) <br />The participants' homes, were audited by Environment and Energy <br />Resource Center personnel and each home was placed in one of <br />three categories, <br />1 ) educational mater i al s only <br />2) toilet device + educational materials <br />3) shower head + faucet aerators + educational materials <br />
