Roseville Home and Garden Program September 17, 2003 Committee Members Sam Marks (HRA), Kathleen Cassen Mickelsan (P&R) and Rochelle Westlund (P&R) Staff: Cathy Bennett, Lonnie Brokke and 7ilI Anfang Background On Apri 1 1 O, 2003 the City Council referred to the Parks and Recreation Conunission and the Housing and Redevelopment Authority Board (HRA) a potential Roseville Horne and Garden Program for further study and recommendation. In June Council Member Craig Klausing appeared before the Parrs and recreation Commission and the HRA Board to review the referral and to answer any questions. Following those meetings a Committee was formed with representatives appointed by each of the respective commissions. The committee net on Sept 17, 2003 to discuss the potential value and approach for such a program in Roseville. Discussion centered on: The potential of a program? How a program lire this might fit into Roseville? lle? What type of community input process should there be? What type of outside group involvement? Hour should it be administer. The cost of such a program and how ' it would be funded. Program Potential Overall the committee felt that there was a benefit for such a program but that the approach was important and that it must involve community residence, businesses and groups in the process of its formation and organization Recommended Anroach It has been recommended by the conunittee that a Home and Garden Program continue to be pursued and to continue to outline the specifics. Specifics of the recommendation are for the program to focus and center on the Home and Garden Fair as a resource for people, ideas, resources and development. Each year the program circle would revolve around. the Horne and Garden Fair which is scheduled for January 31, 2004. On that day this year a booth would be planned in an effort to advertise, promote and solicit volunteer committee members to develop such a program. After the formation of a committee then the details and guidelines of the program would be established, including a potential "Name the Program "} contest. It was also suggested that the program tie closely into the annual `4ro sefest Celebration ".
