Regular City Council Minutes — 9/22/03
DRAFT Minutes - Page S
garage on the property. Among other things, Mr. Welsch
reviewed the detailed location of property; lot size;
proposed accessory square footage would exceed diving
square footage and therefore would not be in compliance
with City code.
Mr. Welsch reviewed Mr. Santanni's original proposal, as
well as his revised proposal advising that Mr. Santanni
was at the meeting to plead his case before the City
Council.
Council questions and discussion included the preferred
and allowable square footage for the garage dimensions;
hardship considerations and current needs versus those
during the time the home was constructed; various
alternatives and required Planning Commission action (i.e.
Conditional User Permit and/or Variance); impervious
surface coverage; and height comparisons.
Scott Santanni", 1019 Sherren Street (Applicant)
Mr. Santanni distributed a letter dated September 16, 2003
as a bench handout and reviewed his request and
preferences.
Mr. Santanni stated his need for additional storage space,
and his request fora 1,007 square foot detached garage
that would require a Conditional Use Permit (CUP). He
recounted that his request was prompted by a tree falling
on the existing garage. Mr. Santanni proposed 'creating a
drive- through from the existing garage to the new
structure for access and for future accommodation.
Mr. Santanni reviewed the staff report, Planning
Commission findings and his rationale for the uniqueness
of his lot and request; and presented a petition from his
neighbors in support of the detached accessory building
construction as presented.
Mayor Kysylyczyn complimented Mr. Santanni on his
presentation and knowledge of the issues and materials
presented.
