Regular City Council Minutes — 9115/03 <br />DRA I' Minutes - Page 17 <br />maintenance and long -term ownership; alleged <br />misrepresentation and misinformation in a recent <br />anonymous mailing to residents; current contract costs <br />versus an amended contract; education of residents; and <br />majority opinion. <br />Councilmember Klausing repeatedly attempted <br />recognition by the Chair to no avail. <br />Upon recognition, Councilmember Klausing <br />recommended that no action be taken on this item tonight; <br />and denied knowledge of the flyer's origination, <br />expressing a preference that his direct work phone number <br />had not been provided, and that the person responsible for <br />the flyer had identified themselves. <br />Councilmember Schroeder opined that the written <br />comment received represented a vocal minority; and that <br />in his responses to the comment he received, and his <br />clarification of the facts and disclaimers of the <br />misinformation on the flyer, those respondents had been <br />convinced of the advantages of asingle- stream collection <br />system. Councilmember Schroeder expressed his support <br />of an addendum allowing for asingle- stream collection <br />system and that the advantages would offset any additional <br />costs for implementation. <br />Councilmember Klausing adhered to the provisions of the <br />original contract, and following the pilot prograin <br />prior to committing to a multi -year, single stream <br />collection contract. <br />Councilmember Schroeder adhered to the need to forgo <br />the pilot program in an effort to capture as much material <br />for recycling by making the process as user - friendly as <br />possible, which would be achieved with asingle -sort <br />system. <br />Discussion ensued regarding the recovery rate achieved <br />with a single -sort system and residual rates; and facility <br />tours recently provided by Waste Management for <br />
