Am comet Suburban County Court Facility RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ANY AND ALL EFFORTS TO MAWTAIN A SUBURBAN COURT FACILITY WHEREAS, the City of Roseville understands that the current budget cuts of the State are impacting Ramsey County District Court; WHEREAS, the City understands that an option currently being discussed by the courts and County is the closure of the Maplewood Court facility; WHEREAS, the Council believes the court services are an essential service of the County serving also the suburban cornniuniti es; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF ROE ILLE HEREBY WISHES TO SUPPORT ANY AND ALL EFFORTS TO MAINTAIN A SUBURBAN COURT FACILITY FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: 1. There is an increased cost to require the suburban citizens, peace officers, victims, witnesses, and other personnel to appear downtown St. Paul; 2. The suburban court serves a unique need of the municipalities; 3. The City believes that the provision of court services in the suburbs are an essential function that the County must provide-, 4. The City objects to any relocation of the suburban facility to downtown St. Paul* 5. The City recognizes that there is a high traffic volume of cases in Maplewood Court from January to the present date more than 9,000 case have been heard in Maplewood Court in addition there are an average 50 hearing officer's cases per day; 6. The City Council is concern as to the high cost of security and the level of security provided in Ramsey County as oppose to other courts across the state. The City ask the County to reevaluate the security costs and needs in the Ramsey County District Courts; 7. There is a strong interest m providing access to victims and witnesses especially victims of domestic assault when easy access to the Court is essential; 8. The Mmnnesota Legislature has directed that the County must provide an adequate facility for the suburban courts.
