Am <br />comet <br />Suburban County Court Facility <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ANY AND ALL <br />EFFORTS TO MAWTAIN A SUBURBAN COURT FACILITY <br />WHEREAS, the City of Roseville understands that the current budget cuts of the State are <br />impacting Ramsey County District Court; <br />WHEREAS, the City understands that an option currently being discussed by the courts and <br />County is the closure of the Maplewood Court facility; <br />WHEREAS, the Council believes the court services are an essential service of the County <br />serving also the suburban cornniuniti es; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF ROE ILLE HEREBY <br />WISHES TO SUPPORT ANY AND ALL EFFORTS TO MAINTAIN A SUBURBAN COURT <br />FACILITY FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: <br />1. There is an increased cost to require the suburban citizens, peace officers, victims, <br />witnesses, and other personnel to appear downtown St. Paul; <br />2. The suburban court serves a unique need of the municipalities; <br />3. The City believes that the provision of court services in the suburbs are an essential <br />function that the County must provide-, <br />4. The City objects to any relocation of the suburban facility to downtown St. Paul* <br />5. The City recognizes that there is a high traffic volume of cases in Maplewood Court <br />from January to the present date more than 9,000 case have been heard in <br />Maplewood Court in addition there are an average 50 hearing officer's cases per day; <br />6. The City Council is concern as to the high cost of security and the level of security <br />provided in Ramsey County as oppose to other courts across the state. The City ask <br />the County to reevaluate the security costs and needs in the Ramsey County District <br />Courts; <br />7. There is a strong interest m providing access to victims and witnesses especially <br />victims of domestic assault when easy access to the Court is essential; <br />8. The Mmnnesota Legislature has directed that the County must provide an adequate <br />facility for the suburban courts. <br />
