H 0 & <br />ispanic Heritage Month <br />September 15 - October 15, 2003 <br />'whereas: The City of Roseville is committed to recognizing and honoring the <br />contributions of all members of our community; and <br />Whereas: September 15 is the anniversary of independence for five Latin Arn eri can <br />countries - Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, and Mexico <br />achieved independence on September 16 and Chile achieved independence on September 18; <br />and <br />Whereas: in 1988 the United States Congress adopted a resolution designating <br />September 15 to October 15 of each year as National Hispanic Heritage Month; and <br />Whereas: the Hispanic community has a long history of contributions in language, <br />history, music, arts, written words, education, sports, discoveries and other areas; and <br />Whereas: Hispanic Americans bring a rich cultural heritage representing many countries, <br />ethnxcities and religious traditions; and <br />Whereas: Approximately two percent of Roseville residents identify themselves as part <br />of the Hispanic heritage; and <br />Whereas: The City invites all members of the Roseville conun.unity to renew their <br />commitment to create a strong and diverse corrununity. <br />Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, that the City Council hereby declare September 15 to <br />October 15, 2003 to be Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Roseville, County ofl Ramsey, <br />y <br />State of Minnesota, 1..1. - A <br />In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of <br />Roseville to be affixed this 15th day of September 2003. <br />Mayor John Iysylycyn <br />
