If an employee has built up enough paid leave time to keep them p__ aid at a
status that they were hired at (full -tithe or part - time) then they would continue to receive
and accrue benefits including the City health insurance contribution. This is continued
until the employee has depleted their paid leave bank,
At such a time that the paid leave bank is depleted and the FM LA period is over the
employee, if granted an extended leave, ( City policy states this can be granted for up to
one year) the employee will pay the entire premium. This continues until the employee
leaves employment, in which a COBRA extension is offered, or the employee returns to
work and the City begins to contribute again.
In addition, during this timefratne while the employee is on a qualified leave time is
elapsing toward eligibility far Long Term Disability a ents. The qualifying timeline
is 60 days. On the sixty first day the qualified employee will receive 60% of their gross
income up to a cap of $6,000 per month.
Currently the City pays the full amount to cover long term disability insurance for R111-
time regular City staff. This amount is taxable when the employee receives the benefit.
This benefit continues until the employee is able to return to work, no longer needs the
benefit, or reaches social security eligibility.
