T• � <br />Backgound <br />For several months we have been researching information on getting welcoming <br />signs placed in Roseville. At the same time the Lions Club expressed interest in <br />erecting a "Lions Club" sign but City Code-prohibited it. You suggested adding <br />service organizations' logos to the welcoming signs. Those organizations <br />would donate money to offset costs. <br />An ad hoc group of representatives from the Roseiawn Legion, Lions Club, <br />Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roseville Visitors Association (RVA) and the <br />Kiwanis Club met several times to discuss the issues. The original plan was for <br />each group to donate $500 to pay for four or more welcoming signs. In return <br />those organizations' logos would be placed on the signs. <br />At the June 16 meeting, the City Council rejected the signs (3 -2), raising <br />questions about vandalism, maintenance and legality of limiting logos. <br />Initial estimates are that four signs would cost between $2,400 and $ <br />Rosetown Legion, Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roseville Visitors <br />Association (RVA) and the Kiwanis Club all initially agreed to donate $500. <br />The RVA is reconsidering their position if this becomes a controversial issue. <br />You agreed to approach the Rotary to see if they want to donate and you are <br />also seeking financial support from individuals to offset additional costs. <br />0 gage <br />
