Chief Gasaway asked. that the City Council <br />clarify if they wished the Department not to pursue <br />emergency preparedness to the best of their ability; a <br />service he opined had been offered by the Department <br />over the last thirty (30) years. Chief Gasaway estimated <br />that each City department operated under a similar set of <br />guiding documents for day -to -day operations and to <br />achieve their respective goals. <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn identified several larger county -wide <br />agencies working toward emergency management <br />preparedness. <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn queried Councilmembers on the <br />apparent lack of interest in pursuing the proposed <br />Strategic Plan. <br />Councilmember Kough commended Chief Gasaway and <br />the Department for their attempts to improve the gaining <br />and overall equipment; opining that the Chief should have <br />some leeway within the department. <br />Councilmember Schroeder questioned Chief Gasaway on <br />the availability and source of the $17,833 matching city <br />funds required for the grant application. <br />Chief Gasaway responded that the match would be paid <br />fire Department's operating budget, and would require <br />eliminating or delaying the purchase of some previously <br />identified equipment and supplies to meet that <br />requirement. <br />Councilmember Schroeder opined that the Department <br />appeared to have specific goals and sufficient funds; and <br />suggested staff be directed to return the proposed strategic <br />plan to the Council's attention. <br />Schroeder moved, Klausing seconded, authorization for <br />submission of a grant application in the amount of <br />
