Artistic QuaUty <br />Roseville residents and community guests have enjoyed Performances in the Park at the Roseville <br />Central Dark Amphitheater for 18 years. Roseville Parks and Recreation, under the 'dance of the <br />■ ■ • i i <br />Parks and Recreation onu sslon, prides itself n providing performances that pique an interest in <br />everyone. Artists share their tarts with the community three evenings each week Tuesday, Thursday <br />� � y} y <br />and Sunday, late May through August, <br />Performances M' the Park is an established Roseville community resource. The main ingredient for <br />its success comes from organizers who stag close to the artistic pulse of the community and schedule <br />artists accordingly. It is important for staff` to react to the community feedback in response to all <br />performances. In recent years, the community has voiced an interest in adding new artists with unique <br />talents to the performance line -up while maintaumrkg time- tested favorites and artists with a comrnunrt <br />connection. Y <br />In 2003, o sevi lle's Performances in the Park will become a multi -series combination of artistic <br />presentations that feature Ethnic Exposure, Family - Tovolve en t and Community Connectionv. We look <br />to address the community call for expanded programming components while maintaining an <br />established high level of artistic quality. These additions come with expanded costs to the program. <br />For this reason, Roseville Parks and Recreation requests grant funding from the Metropolitan regional <br />Arts Council to support the Performances in the Farb series. <br />The guiding principle for the operations and promotions of the Performances in the Park series is to <br />provide structure and give direction to the organization of performing artists while celebrating <br />corumunity and diversity. Our artistic goals are to: <br />Preserve the artistic legacy established by years of quality performances at Central Park's <br />Amphitheater. <br />Introduce the community to culturally diverse performances. <br />Encourage fami 1 y involvement through interactive concerts and shows. <br />• Unite our community through performances that bring together intergenerational audiences <br />• Present the community artists with unique talents and innovative presentations. <br />Provide opportunities for artistic enrichment. <br />Inspire lifetime appreciation of the arts. <br />Engage local artists. <br />The Ethnic Exposure Verses will bring a sampling of culture based music genres featuring American <br />born dues, Latin American Harp, Taiko Japanese Drums, Appalachian music and dance, and a world - <br />wide tour of international children singing and dancing. The groups selected for possible inclusion in <br />the Ethnic Exposure Series were chosen because of their connection to the cultural make -up of <br />Roseville area residents. Asian descendents make up the largest minority population in our <br />community, followed by Blau and Hispanics. <br />Big Walter Smith and the Groove is blues at its hest. dues is a farm of music and verse <br />native to North America. The Blues have no direct prior relationship to European or <br />African music forms and is seen as a blending of both traditions. <br />Son Relsur is a festive Latin style music that entices the audience to feel the music from <br />within. Traditional Latin America harp music comes alive with a South American flare. <br />ogee Taiko, a Japanese drum performance that leaves audiences breathless ■ Taiko o refers <br />to both the modern art of taiko g (kumi- daiko), and to the taiko drums themselves. <br />Songs of Hope features children representing twenty -four countries from around the worlds. <br />Audiences are moved by the dynamic performances as Songs of Hope brings concerts of <br />songs, dance, costumes and percussion to the community.
