KEEP C2 CLOSED 10-16-11
HISTORY OF JOSEPHINE ROAD
When I first arrived 45 years ago, Josephine Road was a busy feeder interconnection
between Snelling, Hamline and Lexington roads. At that time there were mostly modest
homes on Lake Josephine. There were none in the wooded hills immediately to the south
of Josephine Road.
Then, a few years ago, many beautiful homes were constructed along the shore of Lake
Josephine and in the hills adjacent to Josephine Road.
When these houses were built, all of the buyers had full knowledge of the busy traffic
conditions on Josephine Road.
More recently, Josephine Road was completely reconstructed. It now has wide
sidewalks, road-side parking turn-outs and color-patterned cross-walks. This was done at
great expense.
As time went on, the residents of the Josephine neighborhood wanted less traffic on
Josephine Road. This is completely understandable.
Their thought was (and is) that opening "C2"would substantially reduce traffic on
Josephine Road.
They have brought requests to open"C2"to the Roseville City Council on numerous
occasions over the past few years.
The question now before the Council is the latest of these requests.
MAP OF "C2" AND JOSEPHINE ROAD AREA
A map was made of the area to show the main features of the roads and lakes in the area.
"C2": "ROAD TO NOWHERE"
The map of this segment of"C2" clearly shows that"C2 is completely isolated.
"C2"dead-ends at two lakes: Twin Lakes and Lake Owosso.
The total length of the "C2" segment between the two lakes is only 1.5 miles long.
1
