Approval, Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section. <br />Reports and Recommendations <br />Item Description: Bids for Provild ing Curbside Collect "ion of R e-cyclables. <br />-Backgrounid <br />Roseville initiated the curbside collection of recyclables in 1987. The <br />4 0 <br />program has, been very suiccessful, showing excellent increases in the <br />number of residents participating and tonnage of materials collected. <br />I <br />The current, recycling program provides for pickup of recycling 'in the <br />entire City on, the first and third Weldnesday of each month. Materials <br />colleicted are glass containers, metal and alum' <br />inum containers, news- <br />piap�iers,, plastic bottles with necks,f corrugated cardboardt telephone <br />directories, and magazines. <br />Super Cycle,, Inc. has provided the curbside collection service sineIIII� <br />1987,, and its current contract with the City ends on DeceInber 31 1991. <br />Requests, for, bids for continuing the slervice, were sent to seven'firms. <br />The specift"ications asked for a base bid on a cost per household. The <br />4 <br />following alternate bids were also requested. <br />Bid based on a cost for each ton of recyclables collected each <br />month . <br />2* Bid based on a, cost per month for the first 200 tons of recyclables <br />collected, each month, at a cost, for each ton over 200 collected each <br />month. <br />The chart below show's the average monthly tonnage on an annual basis and <br />* percentage increase over the previous year. The increases clearly show <br />* recycling, program, that is experi,encing good solid growth anid, is work� <br />& i <br />ing <br />
