Mr. Steve Gatlin
February 14, 1991
Page #2
between the parking lot and the street. This results in a 2 foot
shift of the centerline to the south along the segment of the
road west of the ditch. The 6 foot boulevard south of the street
would be planted with grass only, providing no screening of the
adjacent parking lot. The 12 foot median is the narrowest
possible width to support tree and shrub plantings, according to
our landscape architect, C. J. Lilly.
For the purposes of discussion, we will refer to the alternates
and their variation as follows:
Alternate 1: 44 foot cross section, no median.
Alternate 2A: 52 foot cross section w /median between Lincoln
Drive and County Ditch No. 4 and a 44 foot cross
section between the ditch and the existing cul -de-
sac.
Alternate 2B: 52 foot cross section w /median between Lincoln4
Drive and County Ditch No. 4, and a 48 foot cross
section with a median between the ditch and
existing cul -de -sac.
In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of the originally
proposed alignment and the southerly alignment are also discussed
below.
ALTERNATE I - 44 FOOT CROSS SECTION, NO MEDIAN
Advantages
Disadvantages
o Less costly than o
Future addition of a
Alternates 2A and 2B.
median, if desired at the
time of redevelopment
would require street
widening.
o Provides drivers with o
Less effective entry
ability to bypass traffic
statement between Lincoln
turning left into driveways.
Drive and County Ditch
o Provides future option to have
No...4 if one views the
the landscaped median
on- street parking or a 4 -lane
as
more aesthetically bene-
roadway without widening,
ficial than boulevard
landscaping,
