EX,P. ENDITURE OF 1AWFUL GAMBLING PROCEEDS 51
1he second organization, we visited, the Spring Lake Park Lions, was missing
over $37,000 from its, gambling bank, account.
There are several reasons, why funds rm*ght be missing from the gambling bank
6i
account. First, the organization could have experienced a theft or a misappro-
a
priation. Second, the organization could have, transferred money improperly
to its non-gambling bank, accounts,. Third, there could have been accounting
*I
nustakesi.
In the course of'our site visits, we, conducted gambling account reconciliations
a
and found that several other organizations were missing f funds from their gam-
bling accounts. 'nie Crystal, Lions were missing approximately $14,000 from
0
theff* bank account. The Fergus Falls Elks were missling approximately
$2000036
The Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department appeared to have a discrepancy of
approximately $I 1,400. It was difficult to tell the exact size of the discrepancy
40
because the organization made, numerous, mistakes in filling out its tax return,
including how it reported games played and how it valued and reported ffiven-
try.
We blel,i,eve there may be many more problems than are reported on the tax re-
9 We estimate that there are several million dollars of gambling prorits
that are missing, from organization's gambline bank accounts.
CP
