Mr. Hilbert assured Councilmembers <br /> and the public that the design team would use the same systematic approach in the <br /> design and construction, with or without third-party certification and their stamp <br /> of approval. Mr. Hilbert reviewed the numerous components available for sus- <br /> tainable development. <br /> At the request of Councilmember McGehee, Principal Mechanical Engineer <br /> Larry Svitak, PE addressed various design processes that were subject to review <br /> and verification for third-party certification that Larry Svitak — additional tasks <br /> during design process. <br /> Mr. Svitak addressed the intent to utilize waste heat from the City Campus's geo- <br /> thermal system routed throughout the campus via the Public Works building from <br /> the Ice Arena to the Fire Station. <br /> Fire Chief O'Neill noted that continuation of the campus's Geothermal Master <br /> Plan was currently under review by another partner in the design process, KFI, the <br /> firm originally designing the geothermal system, with that supplemental study ad- <br /> vising how best to incorporate use of the geothermal system into a campus-wide <br /> plan, as well as piping for future incorporation of other areas on campus. <br /> At the request of Councilmember Johnson, Mr. Svitak advised that there will be a <br /> need for additional well fields, since the fire station would be a heating dominant <br /> building due to continual heating of the apparatus bays, with sufficient bores cur- <br /> rently in place to handle the cooling load, but not the heating load; as well as us- <br /> ing the excess waste heat generated by other buildings that was not currently be- <br /> ing utilized. <br /> At the request of Mayor Roe, Mr. Svitak noted other areas for use of waste heat, <br /> such as to heat domestic water. <br /> Principal Electrical Engineer Jay Hruby, reviewed areas where the most point <br /> would be gained for LEED or Green Globes certification, such as high efficiency <br /> lighting and controls; daylight harvesting; and full cutoff exterior light fixtures. <br /> Mr. Hutson reviewed the conceptual facility space needs analysis developed to- <br /> date, based on review of the Design Team and input from the Fire Department; <br /> however, he noted that this did not yet include development of a floor plan of cir- <br /> culation layout. Mr. Hutson advised reviewed a potential floor plan and estimated <br /> square footage for each use, including that of administration, living space, sup- <br /> port space, operations, infrastructure, and circulation for total anticipated for pro- <br /> grammed space of 31,477 square feet. <br />
