Review of Trash maintained in a clean, first -class manner" and that vehicles "shall <br />Collection be thoroughly washed not less than once each week and shall be <br />repainted as necessary." <br />Impacts Options / Recommendations <br />• Establish vehicle cleaning and painting requirements <br />as a condition of the required license (see Appendix A <br />for sample language); <br />• Establish performance standards related to controlling <br />litter, spills etc. (see Appendix A for sample language); <br />• Provide universal roll -out of City -owned standardized <br />single stream recycling containers with City logo (see <br />Appendix A for sample contract language); and <br />✓ Implement a Districted Collection System or City -Wide <br />Contract for Services to reduce the number of trash <br />trucks on residential streets, the number of days per <br />week collection service occurs and allow for <br />standardizing trash containers: <br />Roll -out City -owned standardized wheeled trash <br />containers with City logo. <br />Noise <br />Background / Overview <br />Noise from trash trucks can be related to a number of factors <br />including: <br />• Engine noise; <br />• Backing alarms; <br />• Noise at Point of Collection (Dumping of material such as <br />glass in curbside recycling systems); and <br />• Dumping commercial bins. <br />The specific strategies and options to reduce those noise impacts <br />depend in large part on the source of the noise. Some jurisdictions <br />have established specific noise standards (e.g., decibel ratings <br />within a specified distance from the vehicle) that haulers must <br />comply with during collection operations. <br />Analysis <br />Engine Noise <br />Engine noise associated with residential trash trucks is largely <br />related to revving of the engine when the vehicle is packing. <br />Diesel garbage trucks can generate noise levels of up to 100 <br />decibels.
