se Tie Parks and Re(:reation
Medina, MN Citizen Survey 2006
Maple Grove, MN Community Survey 2008
We have conducted the National Citizen Survey TM for:
Maplewood, MN 2004
Chanhassen, MN 20051 2010
St. Cloud, MN 2005
Hutchinson, MN 2006
St. Louis County, MN 2007
Chanhassen, MN 2007
Duluth, MN 2009, 2010
At NRC, we understand the challenges local governments and special districts face when
integrating the voice of their constituents into long range planning. We consider ourselves part of
the local government team and have worked hard to provide products and services that gather
resident input in a cost effective manner, ensure that the right information is collected and help
communities put this information into action. To this end we:
Assist cities, towns, villages, special districts and counties with their unique survey needs for
parks and recreation planning.
Conduct trainings at conferences and through audio seminars on best practices in research
methods, survey design, and implementation of results. Recent examples include a presentation
about what accounts for the gap in perspectives among white residents of communities and
people of color at the 2009 American Society of Public Administration annual conference in
Florida, and three sessions entitled: "The National Citizen Survey TM Panel: Putting Data to
Action,""Citizen Survey Results Gone Wild" and"Is your organizational climate one that fosters
"greatness"?"at the 2008 International City/County Management Association (ICMA)
Conference in Richmond, VA.
Write our own journal, Perspectives; write for ICMA's journal, Performance Matters; and publish
peer-reviewed articles on our methods and results. For example:
Miller, TI"Key Drivers Focus Managers on Services That Matter."Performance Matters. July
2008. International City/County Management Association. Washington, D.C.
"Citizen Surveys on the Web: General Population Surveys."Miller T, Kobayashi M, Caldwell
E, Thurston S and Collet B. Social Science Computer Review, 2002, vol 20 (2): 124-136.
Develop and enhance the Community Assessment Survey of Older Adults TM (CASOA) to gather
information to help jurisdictions understand and prepare for older adult needs as demographics
shift.
Develop and enhance the Parks and Recreation Community Survey TM (PARCS) to help parks
and recreation departments plan for their communities.
Author articles for parks and recreation managers: See, for example, an article by NRC principals
on parks and recreation planning research just published by The National Recreation and Parks
Page 1.8
