Roseville Parks and Re(:reation
Association (August 2009): The Voices of Older Adults Need to be Part of Parks and Recreation
Planning. Are you Listening? (http://nr pablog.typepad.com/prnow/august2009/research%20update.pdf)
When we conduct telephone interviews we work closely with a few carefully selected telephone
field services, train staff to our specific standards of excellence and monitor the field work regularly
to assure that our standards are adhered to. As part of our adherence to telephone survey research
standards, NRC reports the full telephone log disposition and response rates (using one or more of
the American Association for Public Opinion Research—AAPOR's—response rate calculations).
Because response rates have been declining rapidly in the last several years, many survey research
firms, protecting their own call center capital investments, fail to report these important data.
NRC has a reputation for transparency in methods.
Bench a m, ReSURS
NRC pioneered the use of benchmarking for resident surveys and maintains the most
comprehensive database of findings from across the country, statistically synthesized to permit
apples to apples comparisons from disparate methodologies, wording and response options. The
myriad available comparisons reflect our agility. We can select custom subgroups of jurisdictions
and add newly available findings. We can compare service quality ratings and broad community
characteristics and amenities. In addition to being able to compare to other jurisdictions, we also
can compare to like individuals. Our extensive database includes 160,000 individual surveys
(representing 36 million residents across the country), along with each person's sociodemographic
data, which means we can compare results for more or less affluent residents, renters versus
owners, men and women and others.
About GreenPlay, LLC
GreenPlay is a woman-owned parks and recreation consultancy with parks and recreation planning
and operations experience from across the U.S. Among many other types of projects, two of
GreenPlay's core services are helping communities develop system wide master plans and
operational plans for their parks, recreation, open space and trail facilities and services. As
experienced parks and recreation administrators and consultants, GreenPlay plays an influential
role in the development of the outreach efforts and survey instruments. Our GreenPlay partners
will assure necessary target markets are reached and that the data collected will be usable and
applicable for recommendations. Some examples of this type of work include Erie, CO, where
citizen priorities are being used to establish acquisition criteria for its open space program; and the
Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission/Prince George's County where the
public interest in opportunities for improving health and wellness is being coupled with the analysis
of current and potential resources to refine the role of the parks and recreation entity in providing
physical infrastructure. Also, GreenPlay used extensive public involvement including user group
interviews and meetings, stakeholder interviews and a statistically valid needs assessment survey to
develop a 10-year Parks, Recreation, Cultural Arts and Greenways Master Plan for the City of
Asheville, NC.
Page m.
