recommended that the request be granted. <br />36 POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />37 The established City policy is to refer to the Parks and Recreation Commission for recommendation on the <br />38 naming of City Parks and Recreation land and facilities. The policy further states that consideration will be <br />39 based on the following factors.- <br />40 ■ natural habitat,, i.e.,, vegetation,, terrain, animals, etc. <br />4 1 ■ geographic location,, i.e.,, street names, directions, etc. <br />42 ■ appropriate non-descript terminology, i.e., acronyms or joining of two words or names or <br />43 activities,, etc. <br />44 ■ only under certain and exceptional circumstances will consideration be given to the names <br />45 of individuals,, organized groups, associations or businesses. To be considered the <br />46 individual or group must have made a significant and exceptional contribution to the site <br />47 involved or to the community as a whole. Such contributions should be for recreation <br />48 purposes and may include substantial financial and/or property donations. <br />49 <br />The request is also consistent with past practice including the naming of the Tom Curly play area, Marie <br />'i Slawick play area, Roger Short Maintenance facility in the arboretum, the Shirlie Klaus Pavilion, the <br />2 Catherine Weathersten Arbor. <br />4 This request is consistent with Imagine Roseville 2025's goal of honoring individuals who contribute to the <br />55 community. <br />56 FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />57 In recognition of this naming, the Roseville Central Park Foundation has authorized a significant <br />58 contribution o 5,000 to perform facility improvements to the Amphitheatre in Mr. Frank Rog's honor. <br />59 STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Based on policy,, past practice,, Mr. Frank Rugs' significant and exceptional contribution in establishing the <br />6 i Roseville Parks and Recreation System and to the community as a whole, the significant financial <br />62 contribution of $,25,,000,, the unanimous support of the.- Roseville Central Park Foundation, Friends of <br />63 Roseville Parks (FORPARKS , Friends of Harriet Alexander Nature Center (FORHANC , staff <br />64 recommends that the Roseville Central Park Amphitheatre be named the "Frank Rog Amphitheatre". <br />65 <br />66 The policy and request has been reviewed by the Parks and Recreation Commission and they recommend <br />67 approval unanimously. <br />68 REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION <br />69 Motion to name the Roseville Central Park Amphitheatre the "Frank Rog Amphitheatre"'. <br />"7 ('-) <br />7 1 Motion to accept and recognize the significant contribution of $,25,000 from the Roseville Central Park <br />"72 Foundation to be used for facility improvements to the '"Frank Rog Amphitheatre" in Roseville Central <br />73 Park. <br />74 <br />Prepared by: Lonnie Brokke., Director of Parks and Recreation <br />Attachments: A: Letter of Request from the Roseville Central Park Foundation <br />B: City Naming Policy <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />
