<br />2 This is a dual-�role position. As such, the incumbent carries both staff and line responsibilities
<br />3 with predominate duties being service as a firefi ghter.

<br />7 Firefighter.- To protect life and property by performing fire prevention, fire suppression,
<br />8 inspections, public education, hazardous materials incident mitigation, rescue and emergency
<br />9 medical services. Maintains fire equipment,, apparatus and facilities, and other duties as
<br />10 required. Works under the close supervision of the Fire Supervisor to ensure the overall goals
<br />I I and objectives of the Fire Department are met.
<br />12 Department Assistant.- To provide administration support functions for the Fire Department.

<br />14 Scope ofResponsibility:

<br />16 Firerighter: The Firefi ghter's primary scope is the performance of fire, rescue, medical and
<br />17 prevention services. A Firefi ghter may, on occasion, be assigned limited administrative
<br />18 responsibility and, on a limited basis, may be responsible for providing direction to less
<br />19 experienced firefighting personnel on the scenes of emergencies. Performs basic troubleshooting
<br />20 and decision making within established parameters that has limited financial impact, while
<br />21 working under direct supervision.
<br />22 Department Assistant: Works under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief. Has no direct
<br />23 supervision responsibility. Has general office skills including typing, document preparation and
<br />24 layout, proofreading, transcription, and filing. Applies knowledge of office equipment including
<br />25 computers, printers, fax machine, scanners, copy machine, dictaphone and typewriter. Applies
<br />26 knowledge of office computer technologies including word processing, spreadsheet creation and
<br />27 maintenance,, database creation and maintenance,, scanning documents, e-mail, networks.
<br />28 General knowledge of GIS, Microsoft Office, and Windows operating system preferred. Has
<br />29 excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate with and provide service to the
<br />30 general public. Develops and maintains good working relationships with other staff members.
<br />31 Has excellent organizing skills. Applies knowledge of the codes, policies, procedures and
<br />32 practices of a municipal fire department. Is capable of coordinating administrative work with
<br />33 professional staff and working in a team environment. Requires daily and continuous public
<br />34 contact,, requiring a high degree of tact,, courtesy, and sound judgment. Ability and desire to
<br />35 project a professional image through knowledge of job, positive attitude, and accurate and timely
<br />36 completion of work.
