or *we,* <br />37 Essential Duties and Responstottittes: <br />38 <br />39 <br />Firefighter. <br />40 • Performs fire fighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related <br />41 equipment, laying hose and performing fire suppression, containment,, ventilation and <br />42 extinguishment tasks. <br />43 Performs emergency medical aid and rescue activities including administering first aid, <br />44 operating EMS equipment such as monitor/defibrillator, portable suction units,, etc.,, <br />45 performing extrication and providing other assistance as required. <br />46 Performs fire prevention activities including public safety education, fire code and life safety <br />47 code inspections of buildings and businesses within the City and fire investigations to <br />48 determine cause and origin of fire situations as assigned. <br />49 May take a limited leadership role during calls for service, as assigned by a supervisor. <br />50 Serves as a representative of the City, performing duties in a courteous and professional <br />51 manner that conveys a positive image of city government and that fosters cooperation and <br />52 support. <br />53 Makes suggestions supervisors regarding the organization structure of the Fire Department <br />54 and may participate in the process of hiring of qualified Fire Department staff. <br />55 Department Assistant.* <br />56 <br />• Uses word processing, database, spreadsheet, and other computer software programs to <br />57 prepare correspondence, council actions, resolutions, public notices, reports, mailing lists, <br />58 and other documents. Transcribes documents from audio tape. <br />59 Creates and maintains accurate and efficient filing system, both manually and electronically. <br />60 Provides information and explanation to the general public regarding programs procedures <br />61 and resolves customer concerns over the phone and in person. <br />62 Schedules and coordinates intra-office and interdepartmental meetings, projects, programs, <br />63 activities and information flow. Maintains the conference room schedule and Fire <br />64 Department calendar. <br />65 Reviews and edits department documents to ensure that they are error free and ready for <br />66 public presentation. <br />67 Performs data entry for payroll time sheets on a bi-weekly basis and prints payroll reports. <br />68 Opens and distributes department mail. <br />69 Orders and maintains department office supplies. <br />70 Performs other duties as assigned. <br />71 <br />72 Minimum �ualifcations: <br />73 <br />74 Firefighter: Minimum Job requirements include specialized. training beyond. high school that can be <br />75 obtained. in one year or less, and. three (3) or more years of related. experience, or equivalent. Key <br />76 characteristics are knowledge of government and. fire/rescue services, leadership, problem solving and. <br />77 interpersonal relationship skills. Must successfully pass City administered. initial and. periodic tests, <br />78 which may include: physical agility test, physical examination, stress test, drug screen, pulmonary <br />79 function test, and. psychological evaluation.
