I��`°�S�o�E <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Department Approval <br />Item Description.- Approve the Pathway Master Plan 2008 Update <br />Date.- 9/22/08 <br />Item No..- 13.a <br />City Manager Approval <br />I BACKGROUND <br />2 The City Council began discussing a Pathway Master Plan update in November of 2007, as <br />3 recommended by the Public Works, Environment and Transportation Commission. The Council <br />4 directed staff to seek community members for a committee to guide the update and provide input <br />5 to staff through this process. On March 24�, 2008, the City Council appointed the following <br />6 community members and staff to serve on the Pathway Master Plan Update Committee.- <br />"7 <br />Rep resent in2 <br />Members <br />Works Environment and Trans oration Commission <br />Jan Vanderwall <br />-Public <br />Parks and Recreation Commission <br />Sarah Brodt Lenz <br />Active Living Ramsey County Bicycle Committee <br />Ken Yokanovich <br />Community at Large <br />Sarah Heikkila <br />Mike Tracy <br />Lisa Edstrom <br />Kathleen Lassen Mickelson <br />Deb Parker <br />Bob Clarkson <br />Gregg Moder <br />City Staff <br />Duane Schwartz <br />Debra Bloom <br />Lonnie Brokke <br />Jeff Evenson <br />9 The Committee has been meeting since April. Initially the Committee reviewed the 2002-2003 <br />I ('-) Plan and commented on changes they felt necessary to bring the plan up to date. The Imagine <br />"I'll Roseville 2025 report, Active Living Ramsey County initiatives, and recent energy challenges all <br />12 helped guide the update process. While this process was focused on an update to the plan, <br />13 significant revisions to the document have been made. Additional emphasis was recommended <br />14 for the transportation value of trails and sidewalks. Policies and standards were reviewed and <br />I revised for consistency with state and federal standards. The Committee also identified needed <br />16 pathway expansion areas throughout the City and prioritized each of the projects. <br />I ��7 <br />18 An information meeting was held on July 30, 2008, to present the Master Plan to the public. <br />19 This meeting was attended by almost 30 people.
