Department Approval <br />Rls�kspvlffi� <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: 0 -10 -08 <br />Item No.: 12.a <br />City Manager Approval <br />a <br />Item Description: Community Development Department Request to Perform a City <br />Abatement for Unresolved Violations of City Code at 2536 Snelling Avenue. <br />BACKGROUND <br />• The subject property was a rental property but now it appears to be in foreclosure. <br />• The current owner is Mortgage Elec. Reg. Systems, Inc. <br />• Numerous notices were sent to the previous owner. Notice has been sent to the current owner. <br />• On June 2, 2008, garbage bags (approximately 20) were ordered removed from the rear yard <br />and driveway under 407.06E (Immediate Threat). Costs will be assigned to the property. <br />• Current violations include: <br />• Garbage and trash in the yard — (Violation of City Code Section 407.02D). <br />• House soffits, window trim and deck have significant peeling paint — (Violation of City <br />Code Section 906.05.C). <br />• Garage siding paint failing, severely faded — (Violation of City Code Section 906.05.C). <br />• Deteriorated rabbit hutch — (Violation of City Code Section 407.02.D). <br />• A status update, including pictures, will be provided at the public hearing. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />The City goals within the Comprehensive Plan are to protect and improve property values (Goal 3, 4, <br />and 5; page 0 and, Section 3) and to adhere to performance standards which protect the integrity of the <br />housing units and the neighborhood (Policy 0, page S, Section 3) . <br />FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />City Abatement: <br />An abatement would encompass the following: <br />• Removal of garbage: <br />o Approximately - $500.00 <br />• Repainting garage siding, garage door, deck, house soffits and fascia, house trim: <br />o Approximately - $5,000.00 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
