U610 <br />Previous Actions <br />The City of Roseville has already taken steps towards the goal of conserving energy. <br />Most of these steps were put into place before the REACT committee was formed. The <br />following is a list of energy saving accomplishments that have been completed. <br />1. No electrical space heaters will be allowed in City Hall or Public works buildings. <br />2. Holiday lights are replaced with energy saving LED's — energy savings of over 90%! <br />3. Centralized Energy Management Systems installed as part of building upgrades. <br />4. Non - emergency lights are on sensors throughout City Hall and Public works offices. <br />5. Retrofitted traffic signals to LED, resulting in 75% reduction of energy consumed. <br />0. Promote reduce, reuse, and recycle: <br />�-- Promote Household Hazardous Waste disposal sites <br />�- Promote use of yard waste disposal sites <br />�- Sponsor annual clean -up day <br />�- Promote internal recycling /reuse measures <br />�-- Electronic distribution of documents and website reduce paper usage <br />�- Promote use of compost bins, rain barrels and rain gardens to protect the <br />environment to reduce runoff and improve water quality. <br />7. No -mow natural areas and prairie restoration areas on city campus and in some Parks. <br />S. Replacing old CRT computer monitors with energy saving flat panel LCD models. <br />9. Weekly recycling collections (7% increase in recyclables collected compared to twice <br />a month collections) . <br />10. Signed the U5 Mayors Climate Protection Agreement in May 2007 making Roseville <br />a "Cool City" committed to lower greenhouse gas emissions produced in and by the City. <br />11. In November 2007, the Roseville City Council voted to join the International Council <br />for Local Environmental Initiative (ICLEI). <br />These actions, along with forming our REACT committee demonstrate the City Manager <br />and staff's commitment to improving energy efficiencies now, and into the future. The <br />following is a list of recommendations, keeping in mind that some may be easily <br />implemented, while others will take considerable more time and effort. Some may even <br />turn out to be economically impractical or obsolete in this ever - changing world we live <br />in. The committee recognizes that there are new technologies that may not yet be <br />available, and it is committed to the challenge of adapting, as needed as new economic <br />realities emerge. <br />3 <br />
