Despite operating
the same way for many years, does not necessarily make it the best way. Look for ways
to eliminate redundancy's and get rid of the old, easy, energy grabbing ways to complete
the job. Ask questions like "should we let more areas go " natural ", what would it hurt if
we "mowed less ", should we use growth retardant chemicals where we can "?
Policy /Goal Look for more ways to reduce energy consumption in our everyday
operations.
Details /Action Ask tough questions. Take advantage of growth retardant
chemicals and use them on turf so that we don't have to mow as
often. Revisit our mowing policies and, if feasible designate more
"no mow" areas and/or let them go natural to save on labor and
fuel costs. This may not work for picnic areas or other areas where
it makes more sense to have the grass shorter and maintained, but
there are so many other areas that would benefit from this change.
Cost/Saving Variable
Timeline Immediate /ongoing
Responsible
Staff Individual Departments
2.2 Flat Panel Replacement Program
Background Heat generated by a computer requires more air conditioning to yield a
bearable work environment. old computer monitors are huge energy users. LCD
monitors use 40% less energy than equivalent -sized CRT's.
Item
off /Standby
PowerSave
Idle
In Use
Monitor - Dell IT CRT
Monitor - Dell IT LCD
0
1
1
2
50
31
50
31
Table: Power usage in watts.
Policy /Goal To upgrade computers & accessories to most efficient models.
Details /Action All old CRT monitors in the city be replaced with energy saving
LCD models. Most of the older models have already been
replaced, but we recommend replacing all to get the energy saving
benefits that will result.
Z
