Having a good building management system is an integral part <br />of any green initiative. <br />Policy /Goal To include energy management systems in our buildings <br />Details /Action To reduce energy costs and maintenance, any new buildings built <br />by the city or any major remodels should have an energy <br />management system installed. <br />Cost/Saving <br />Timeline ongoing <br />Responsible <br />Staff Facility Managers and Department Heads <br />5.4 Garage Areas <br />Background Any building that has large overhead doors has the potential for great <br />energy loss through heat leaving the doors when open. Keeping these doors closed; <br />especially during very cold days is just a common sense approach to saving energy. <br />Policy /Goal To keep all garage and storage areas at 50 degrees. <br />Details /Action All staff should be cognizant of the energy loss through open <br />garage doors and to keep doors closed when the heat is on and to <br />operate these doors when only necessary.
