Part of this is to get them
thinking about what they do everyday and how they could do it more efficiently. For
instance, turn computers off at the end of the day, drive slower or taking a more direct
route for greater fuel savings, put on a sweater if they are cold instead of using a space
heater, etc. If everybody is more aware of how much energy is being lost through old,
less efficient ways to perform our everyday processes, they would be more able to
understand how and why behaviors should be changed.
Policy /Goal To change behaviors through awareness and training
Details /Actions We recommend that the city put in place energy awareness training
for all employees. Research and find a good company to provide
this training. Possibly combine efficient driving with everyday
type behavior training to increase the employee efficiency in their
individual work areas.
Cost/Saving
Timeline
Responsible
Staff Department Heads
6.2 Work from Home /Reduced Work Week
Background Many cities have gone to reduced work weeks or have allowed many
employees to work from home. It works for some cities, and does not work for others. It
all depends on the work environment, how they conduct business, and what the residents
expect.
Policy /Goal
Details /Actions Roseville is hesitant to move in this direction just now due to
many factors. Working from home increases the security risk to
Roseville's network by adding remote users. There is nothing in
place at this time to make this available to all employees.
Furthermore, reduced work weeks would not save energy for the
City, because it is open 2417 for meeting room groups and the
buildings have to be heated /cooled to comfortable levels to
14
